— Steen Blichers Vej

Steen Blichers Vej 22 is the ongoing restoration and reconversion of a historic villa in Frederiksberg, originally designed by Professor and Architect Christian L. Thuren in 1881 and completed in 1886.

The property was commissioned as the private residence of engineer Philip Schou, owner of the Royal Porcelain Factory and one of the most influential industrialists of his time. Throughout its history, the villa has housed a succession of notable occupants, including engineer and inventor Valdemar Poulsen, before gradually being transformed from a family home into offices for Royal Copenhagen and later Copenhagen Business School.

After nearly a century of institutional use, the project returns the building to its original purpose as a private residence.

The transformation carefully balances contemporary living requirements with the preservation of the villa's architectural character and cultural significance.

Historic interiors, spatial sequences and original details are restored and integrated with new interventions that support modern family life.

The programme re-establishes the villa as a single-family home, comprising representative living spaces on the principal floor, private family quarters on the upper levels and a new wellness programme embedded within the existing basement structure.

Rather than introducing a new architectural narrative, the project seeks to uncover and strengthen the qualities already present within the building. Through careful restoration, material continuity and a deep respect for the villa's history, the transformation extends the life of a significant Frederiksberg residence while preparing it for a new chapter of occupation.

Originally conceived as a home, later adapted to institutional use, the villa now returns to its intended purpose more than 130 years after its completion.
